Photo Booth Frenzy

I was helping plan an event recently and we were looking for a photo booth. Admittedly I’m from Gen-X and even though I’ve been to other events and weddings where I have seen photo booths, my mind instantly goes to the old brown square booth with a red half curtain and a hard bench seat where you cram as many of your friends in the space as possible and try to stop laughing long enough to get at least part of your face in the picture before the flash.

Some people may think that the photo booth is out of style but looking at the some of the options I found, I can’t imagine how. These trendy, fun-filled booths will have your attendees lining up for hours! Let me share what I discovered:

1. Full-length Mirror – This is a full 6-ft by 3-ft foot full-length illuminated mirror where a person can take a full selfie. Afterwards, you touch the screen and a giant keypad appears. You then dial your phone number and text the photo to yourself. No printing necessary and a lot of fun.
2. Inflatable Photo Booth – If an old-school booth isn’t your thing, perhaps an inflatable one is. They come in a variety of sizes and the LED lights inside change color. You and your friends walk inside this mobile room with your props and shoot away. You can have the option to print or email your pictures.
3. Mobile Photo Booth – This is done by a photographer. It’s a large iPad-style camera wrapped in an old-school camera body on a stick and the photographer roams about the event taking photos of the attendees. The photo is then emailed to you and when it arrives, it has a branded border with the design of your choice.
4. Giant Selfie Stick – If you haven’t seen this one, you should look it up. You are basically standing in front of a huge smartphone mounted on a 12-ft pole in the air. It functions like a hand-held selfie stick except that you’re not actually holding it and can get 10-14 of your closest friends in the shot.

There are still many other types of photo booths out there; different sizes, varying price ranges, and the like.

It is nice to have the digital option for receiving your photos. It saves paper and people can show it to others from their phones for years. However, during an event, there is something to be said when several people are gathered around the booth waiting for their strip of pictures to pop out or walking around carrying a strip of photos of a group of people laughing and enjoying themselves. I feel it creates an excitement at the event that is an intangible benefit to being in-person. It may also make others want to participate as well and you’ll end up with a photo booth frenzy at the event.
